4-H

I really need to work on some longer posts so here goes writing.

If you know how 4-H works, great, you don't have to read through this post, but if you don't know how 4-H works, you still don't have to read through this post either, your choice. I would really love it if you did read the post.

There are a lot of 4-h projects you can do, but my club does beef, equine, sheep, cooking, and archery. I personally prefer to do animals. The neighboring town does cat 4h and I think that is one of the weirdest 4h projects "my opinion".  Cats are great mousers to have around though.

Beef 4h is where you get a calf in November and throughout the year you tame it to the point where you are able to lead it, you feed it 4h ration, and give it a name. At the end of the 4h year we have a show n sale were we lead our calf around a pen and a judge will judge the calf according on how it looks, how we groomed it, if it is underfinished or overfinished, and how we lead and set up our calf. Once all the showing part is done, we sell our calves, bring the calves back home, feed them a few more weeks before they go to the butcher.  An then  we either bring them away, or the butcherer will come to our yard. Once the calves are butchered, the butcher shop(s) calls the buyer and they go pick up the meat.

His name is companion.                                                                                                                                        Her name is Moo-Lissa

This black calf  is the companion steer, so if my brother's steer dies this guy will take over. Sadly, I don't have a steer this year, but I will halter break the companion and show and sell him in June, at our Show n Sale. I don't know exactly how to explain it, but you raise one calf for your own calf and a companion just in case your calf dies. So at show n sale day you show your calf, and if you want to show your companion you can, but it's not as rewarding as your own calf because you show him once and maybe just maybe get a banner or ribbon an then your done.

The white face one is my heifer, I showed her last year at show n sale day. This year I will show her as my Cow/calf. She will give me a calf between Feb and April.

She isn't tame. I know I said I showed her last year, but she wasn't tame. The only way I could lead her was if I brought her into the squeeze and put the halter on that way. Over the summer she was in the pasture and lost all of her training. I tried leading her the other day and she ran away from me.  She doesn't let me come close to her. I will let y'all know when I can lead her and pet her in the pen.

To all of you that made it this far. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! If you tell all your friends and family I would greatly appreciate it.

Melissa.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree that cat 4-H sounds really strange...
But I love your cow! She's pretty (as much as a cow can be, lol).
